Will my Lower School student have homework?

  • Students will have a reasonable amount of homework during the week to help reinforce skills, prepare for tests, and to help develop study habits and responsibility. Students are responsible for completing their assignments according to the guidelines set forth by their classroom teachers.
  • Students in grades 1st -5th will typically have homework assignments Monday –Thursday. Students in grades 1st -2nd generally have homework related to spelling, language arts, math, and reading each week. Parents are encouraged to regularly read to your children and listen to your  children read to you.  Quarterly book reports or projects are also completed in 2nd grade.
  • As students in grades 3rd – 5th are exposed to more content, homework is adjusted to reflect this. Along with language arts and math, students may also have vocabulary, science, and social studies homework. Projects and book reports are assigned periodically.  Students are notified in advance of tests and are expected to review and prepare for these even if no written homework has been assigned in that subject.  Students are encouraged to read each day.

Do Lower School students dress out for P.E.?

  • Students Pre-First through 5th grade do not dress out in P.E. uniforms, but they are asked to wear or bring tennis shoes each day.

Can I visit or volunteer in my child’s classroom?

  • Yes.  There are many opportunities throughout the year for parents to volunteer for activities or to help the teacher in the classroom.  If you are interested in visiting or volunteering, please see your child’s teacher.

Will I have scheduled conferences with my child’s teacher?

  • Yes.  There are two scheduled conferences each year, one in the Fall and one at year-end.  A conference can be scheduled at other times as deemed necessary by you or your child’s teacher.
