Clubs and Organizations
Thomas Sumter Academy believes social interaction is an important part of nurturing the well-rounded child. Participation in clubs and organizations is strongly encouraged and there are numerous ways to join on The Hill.
Student Council
The Student Council is an integral part of the student life of Thomas Sumter in 6th-12th Grades. Student Council is and elected organization and selection is an honor and privilege; however, most importantly, it is a great responsibility. The officers and their advisors put in many hours to ensure the atmosphere of Thomas Sumter Academy is one where school spirit and morale are high, and every student has an opportunity to answer the call to be one's best.
Student Council provides opportunities for students to develop leadership skills. The officers are responsible for planning and implementing fundraising activities directed towards the sponsorship of the prom their Junior year. In addition to working toward this overall goal, the officers help plan and conduct Homecoming festivities, student government elections, General assemblies, the annual "Spirit Week" activities, school dances, and a school-wide drive to raise money for the Leukemia Society!
National Honor Society
The National Honor Society of Thomas Sumter Academy is an organization that promotes recognition for students who demonstrate outstanding accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, character, leadership, and service. Membership is an honor and a commitment.
To be eligible for membership, the candidate must be a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior and have been in attendance at the school for the equivalent of one semester and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5. Candidates are further evaluated on the basis of service, leadership, and character. Final selection is made by a faculty council.
The TSA Chapter undertakes various service projects in the school and the community each year. In addition to these projects, members are required to complete 20 hours of individual service.
Key Club
The Key Club is another service organization TSA students may join. Their motto is "Caring…Our Way of Life." Through Key Club's work in the home, school, and community, Key Club members focus on the concept of caring.
Participation in the Key Club encourages the development of initiative, leadership, and good citizenship. The TSA Key Club is open to students in 9th-12th Grades.
