Founded in 1964, Thomas Sumter Academy is an independent, co-educational college preparatory school for students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12.

Enrollment:
Our current enrollment is 450 students. The Class of 2011 included 41 graduates.
Campus:
The main building of the school is historical and the collective facilities create a campus environment located in the rural area of a triangle created by Sumter, SC, Camden, SC, and Shaw Air Force Base.
Mission Statement:
The mission of Thomas Sumter Academy is to develop, in a safe and Christian environment, well-rounded individuals who are fully prepared for college and life.
Student Body:
The student population at Thomas Sumter Academy is diverse, representing a variety of ethnic and economic backgrounds.
Admissions:
Admission to the school is based on a collective review of an applicant’s academic record, standardized test scores, personal interview, teacher recommendations, and entrance test score. All students seeking a college preparatory program are encouraged to apply.
Athletics:
Students have options to participate in football, tennis, soccer, basketball, baseball, swimming, golf, track and field, cross-country, softball, sporting clays and volleyball.
Fine Arts:
Students have options to participate in dance, choral, and drama programs, including stage productions. Students also have options in visual arts.
Honor Rolls:
Thomas Sumter Academy has two honor roll distinctions based on the student’s grades.

Dual Enrollment Classes:
Dual enrollment classes offered through the University of South Carolina for the 2011-2012 school year include American History 111, American History 112, Calculus 141, English 101, and English 102.
Advanced Placement Classes:
Advanced Placement classes offered for the 2011-2012 school year include AP Government, AP Economics, AP Spanish, AP Studio Art 2-D, and AP Statistics.
Graduation Requirements:
The minimum program of study leading to graduation includes 24 credits for a diploma to be awarded.
